Daffodils Dying in February

Drooping heads drop butter

to the frozen

An unseen hand stretches

forth icy fingers

stirring

 a brew of dying

 daffodils

into earth’s nubile

 

Lee Padgett

A native of Saluda, Lee has spent most of his adult life in Greenwood. He taught English at Abbeville and Greenwood High Schools, and retired from Greenwood High School as a media specialist. He holds degrees from Lander, Clemson, and USC. He started writing poetry in high school and in 1980 received the First Place Poetry award for his poem “Under The Piano” which was published in Lander’s literary magazine Review ’80.
